Here you will find some of my experience within Discord Moderation. How I engage with communities, encourage activity, and make it a safe space.

Situation: I once had someone sending lots of large chunks of messages that were bordering on spam, and into a channel that wasn't appropriate for it. They were posting their analysis on characters from a tv show in a channel for theory discussions.

Task: Find a resolution to stop the large chunks of text in a peaceful and polite way, and create a new channel for analytical discussions.

Action: I figured out it was just how they communicated. After talking with another mod, I approached them to ask them to slim down their messages and to if possible divide their text into paragraphs. I told them that I liked their enthusiasm, but large messages may be hard for some people to read, and that they should slim down their messages or break it into paragraphs for easier reading. I also created a new channel so they could post the messages there instead. They were posting analytical thoughts about a tv show in a theory channel. So, I created a channel suited for analysis.

Result: Their messages were much easier for people to read and understand, and others started to interact with them on their analysis in the new channel.

I made this server after I discovered there were people in the Star Wars community who were being harassed because they believed a character who had died in a show was still alive. I chose to set up a discord server so that these people could have a safe space where they could discuss and talk about this character without people harassing them.
